Abstract

In this study, we described a diagnostic system based on indirect fluorescent antibody technique(IFAT) for detection of bacterial diseases in cultured freshwater fishes. Rabbit antisera of 3 bacterial pathogens(Flavobacterium branchiophila, Aeromonas hydrophila, Aeromonas salmonicida) and protein A-FITC conjugate are prepared. The lesions from experimentally or naturally infected fishes which were selected randomly and infected in some aquafarms investigated comparing IFAT to standard culture method. Results revealed that the sensitivity and specificity of IFAT were capable of detecting the bacterial pathogens from the hosts and the environment.
